Carnegie Melon University x Grace Hopper Celebration

During my summer internship with Carnegie Mellon University, I was the sole designer working on their appearance at the 2024 Grace Hopper Celebration—their first time combining multiple departments into one cohesive booth. I worked under two amazing women who guided and supported me throughout the process.

This further deepens gender inequality, as women unfairly bear the socio economic burdens of unplanned pregnancies, limiting their ability to access to education and economic opportunities. The financial and emotional toll can derail education and careers. It also sets up children to become trapped in the same negative cycle.1

My biggest project was creating an interactive brochure that visually explained how CMU’s different majors overlap. I designed a spinning gear with a cutout window, making it fun, eye-catching, and on-brand. I also designed stickers, pins, table tents, and backdrop banners for the space. To help shape the booth experience, I interviewed students about their experiences at past GHC events—what they loved, what fell flat, and what could be better. The final booth was a success, with strong engagement and lots of great feedback on the brochure.
